Lighting Me Up

Posted on: September 21, 2015 Category: Jia Ni Loves

I’ve been dreaming of a space to share what’s lighting me up — what I’ve been digging, things I love, what I’m uber grateful for, and some other pieces in between… So here’s the first in a series I’ve got planned. :)

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it together (it was so much fun and I look forward to doing more of these!) — let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Without further ado, lighting me up this week…

// Sunshine, springtime, and the promise of summer-like days

It’s officially spring in Australia and I am most excited! This season always brings with it a big surge of inspiring ideas, creative flow, and this incredible feeling of alive-ness. The sunshine-filled days laced with lovely cool breezes also translates into more adventures, exploring, and getting out and about.

It’s certainly lighting me up, and adding a spring in my step.

It’s definitely easier to spring about when not weighed down by heavy winter coats, right?

// Reading for Pleasure

Say hello to one of the most recent additions to my life — the Kindle. I’m a huge fan of reading books digitally (while I love a good hardback I tend to favour digital books because I rarely read the same book twice, and love the idea of books that don’t occupy physical space)!

While I used to read using iBooks on the iPad, but found staring at a lit screen + poor battery a hassle and over time — found myself reading less. I was captivated by being able to read without the bright screen glaring at me (which hurts my eyes after long periods of time, not to mention I spend a good chunk of time in front of a screen most days and enjoy screen-off time), as well as the promise of a long battery life.

Since it’s entered my life, I’ve found myself reading so many more books to completion! I’ve really enjoyed immersing myself back in the joy of reading (I was a huge book nerd back in school), and highly recommend this and this in the fiction category & this one in the non-fiction category. ;)

// The Practice of Being Discerning

Does this add value to my life? Does this spark joy in me? Does this feel authentic to me?

These three questions have been in the forefront of my mind.

Which has translated to shopping, cooking + eating, and living mindfully.

To preface this: I’d like to think that I’m *pretty* discerning in everything I do. I’m a detail-oriented person, extremely aware and conscious in decision-making, and I do my best to be engaged and aligned with how I feel in everything I do. I’d give myself an 8 out of 10 on the Discerning Scale (if there was one)!

That is, until I read The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up and realised that as discerning as I was, there were areas of my life where I was tolerating. From tolerating pieces of clothes that no longer fit me to messy storage spaces and cabinets to name a few.

Two weekends dedicated to ‘Operation Tidying Up’ has translated to more happiness in every space (and every human ;) at home — knowing that each piece has been deliberately selected and has a space in our home feels amazing!

// Hanging out with lovely people

Nothing beats the classic face-to-face time with very lovely people.

One thing that has really lit me up recently — hanging out with my gorgeous friend Jess (who’s back in Sydney for a bit before jet-setting off to Italy) and laughing so much I pulled a tummy muscle (or two) that day! Also, going to yoga with my favourite sister in the entire world…. ;)

Dear Life, more moments like these please!

Other notable mentions: Investing in beautiful workout wear, watching Steve work dedicatedly on his marine tank, having our groceries delivered at home (big time saver and I just can’t stop finding it so decadent!), making delicious raw desserts and finding them ready to be eaten in the fridge later, and feeling ‘supported’ (mmmmm).

Over to you: What’s been lighting you up lately?

I’d love to hear from you in the comment below!
